At the heart of this year’s presentation is the new 3.6-meter- / 12-ft-long work Vertical Highways by Bettina Pousttchi. A six-meter-high work from the same series was recently unveiled at the Berlin Central Station. In juxtaposition with Vertical Highways are Clare Wood’s cloud paintings and Jason Martin’s sublime pictorial works, which together open up the booth to a sensual investigation of form and colour. Works by Tony Cragg strike another sculptural chord that is answered by Wolfgang Laib’s quiet meditations.
Another highlight of the presentation at Art Basel is a selection from the drawing archive of Tony Cragg – which is exclusively represented by Buchmann Galerie since 1993. Tony Cragg’s works on paper were recently honoured in a major survey exhibition of his drawings at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich.
