Bettina Pousttchi realises her largest interior photographic installation to date in the Kesselhaus at the KINDL – Centre for Contemporary Art. With a height of twenty meters, the cube-shaped Kesselhaus is a unique exhibition venue in Berlin. Following Roman Signer, David Claerbout, Haegue Yang, and Thomas Scheibitz, Bettina Pousttchi now continues the series of artists who have developed a site-specific work for this spectacular space.

In Berlin, Bettina Pousttchi attracted attention in particular with her acclaimed photo installation Echo (2009–10), for which she covered the entire Temporäre Kunsthalle with an image of the recently demolished Palast der Republik. For the site-specific photographic installation Panorama at the KINDL, Bettina Pousttchi once again works with photography at an architectural scale. Panorama consists of eight floor-to-ceiling photographic prints distributed across the three windowless walls of the Kesselhaus. The starting point is photographs taken by the artist, which show a view through the enormous windowed facade of the Kesselhaus to the space outside, of neighbouring buildings, the beer garden, bicycles, etcetera. At a scale of 1:1, the textile photo prints multiply the narrow, grid-shaped windows.
 

Bettina Pousttchi realisiert im Kesselhaus des KINDL – Zentrum für zeitgenössische Kunst ihre bisher größte Fotoinstallation in einem Innenraum. Mit einer Höhe von zwanzig Metern ist das würfelförmige Kesselhaus ein einzigartiger Ausstellungsort in Berlin. Nach Roman Signer, David Claerbout, Haegue Yang und Thomas Scheibitz setzt Bettina Pousttchi nun die Reihe der Künstlerinnen und Künstler fort, die für diesen spektakulären Raum eine Arbeit entwickeln.

In Berlin erhielt Bettina Pousttchi insbesondere durch ihre viel beachtete Fotoinstallation Echo (2009/2010) Aufmerksamkeit: Damals umkleidete sie die gesamte Temporäre Kunsthalle mit einem Nachbild des gerade abgerissenen Palastes der Republik. Für die ortsspezifische Fotoinstallation Panorama arbeitet Bettina Pousttchi im KINDL einmal mehr mit Fotografie in den Dimensionen von Architektur. Panorama besteht aus acht raumhohen Fotobahnen, die auf die drei fensterlosen Wände des Kesselhauses verteilt sind. Ausgangspunkt sind Fotografien der Künstlerin, die in jeweils leicht verschobener Perspektive einen Blick durch die riesige Fensterfront des Kesselhauses in den Außenraum, auf benachbarte Gebäude, den Biergarten, Fahrräder etc. zeigen. Im Maßstab 1:1 multiplizieren die textilen Fotodrucke die schmalen, gerasterten Fensterbahnen.
