Alberto Garutti Early Works
Starting from 5 pm we will be delighted to welcome you in BUCHMANN GALERIE AGRA, where other works by Alberto Garutti are on show, as well as William Tucker’s exhibition, opened last March.
The exhibition at Buchmann Galerie Agra hosts some of Garutti’s early works, including Madonna, 2007, designed for the new Church in Trezzano sul Naviglio (Milan). Inside the statue the artist implemented a device which allows it to reach a temperature of 36.7 C°. Alberto Garutti explained that “[…] this object takes up a position in a new territory, in an environment halfway between the religious world, that of believers and the system of art and its iconography”[1].
Also Cristallo Rosso (Red Crystal – 1995-1997) is on show, where sculpture, painting and architecture merge together to create a unique and fascinating artwork.
We are also hosting some other works from the series Orizzonti (Horizons), Moquette (Carpeting) and Tutti i passi che ho fatto nella mia vita mi hanno portato qui, ora (Every step I have taken in my life has led me here, now). This last work is made up of a rock plate which is usually inserted in the floor and on which the artist sculpted the title. It establishes a direct and deep relation between the public and the artwork itself and it introduces and amplifies the concept of caption, which the artist has recalled and re-elaborated in many other works.
Alberto Garutti is one of the most relevant contemporary Italian artists nowadays. Up-to-date he has realized a number of public artworks for different cities, such as Milan, Bergamo, Istanbul and Moscow. His works are exhibited in many important international museums like S.M.A.K. in Gand (Belgium), MARTa Museum in Herford (Germany), 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa (Japan) and many others. In 1990 he was invited at Venice Biennale and in 2001 at Istanbul Biennial. In 2012 PAC – Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea in Milan dedicated to Alberto Garutti a solo show.

BUCHMANN GALERIE AGRA
In seguito a partire dalle ore 17.00, sarà possibile ammirare le opere di Alberto Garutti nella seconda sala della Galleria Buchmann di Agra, in concomitanza con la mostra di William Tucker già aperta in marzo.
L’esposizione presenta delle “early works” tra cui Madonna, realizzata per la nuova Chiesa della Parrocchia di Trezzano sul Naviglio nel 2007 in cui l’artista ha installato un dispositivo che permette alla statua di scaldarsi fino a una temperatura corporea di 36,7° C. Alberto Garutti racconta in proposito: “[…] l’oggetto si colloca in un territorio nuovo, in un ambiente di mezzo tra il mondo religioso, quello dei fedeli e il sistema dell’arte e la sua iconografia”.[1]
O ancora Cristallo rosso, 1995-97, dove scultura, pittura e architettura si fondono per dare vita ad un unico e affascinante lavoro.
Sono esposti inoltre lavori tratti da serie, come Orizzonti, Moquette e Tutti i passi che ho fatto nella mia vita mi hanno portato qui, ora. Quest’ultima opera consiste in una lastra di pietra inserita solitamente nella pavimentazione su cui è scolpito il titolo, stabilendo un rapporto diretto e profondo tra il fruitore e l’opera d’arte e introducendo e ampliando al tempo stesso il concetto di didascalia, ripreso e rielaborato in molti altri suoi lavori.
Alberto Garutti si inserisce tra i più rilevanti artisti della nostra contemporaneità. Ad oggi ha realizzato opere pubbliche per diverse città tra cui Milano, Bergamo, Istanbul e Mosca. I suoi lavori sono presenti nelle collezioni di importanti musei come lo S.M.A.K di Gand in Belgio, il MARTa Museum di Herford in Germania, il 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art di Kanazawa in Giappone e altri. Nel 1990 ha partecipato alla Biennale di Venezia e nel 2001 alla Biennale di Istanbul. Nel 2012 gli è stata dedicata una grande mostra antologica personale al PAC di Milano.
